So true. I just try to stay out of their way.

No, it’s worse than that. Material things are beautiful things, or can be. The world we know is matter. I cherish *things*. Things made by hands, things made by ingenuity and machinery, things that have fallen by the side of the road.
The horror of Black Friday is the lust of conquest, the notion that by staying up for 24 hours or queueing for a parking spot, we have somehow ACHIEVED something. It’s not materialism, it’s narcissism that cranks this tractor.

A very profound insight. Thank you, Ms. Sled.
