I remember “Bad News Bears”, that’s the only sports movie I can think of offhand.

For a fitness fanatic and weightlifter, I’ve never been able to dredge up any enthusiasm for sports. But I did enjoy “Field of Dreams,” just for the moment when James Earl Jones, as a crypto J. D. Salinger, commences fumigating Kevin Costner (again) with a Flit gun.
As you say, sports movies aren’t really about sports.
